The khutbah teaches that Allah looks at sincere intention as well as outward action. A person who genuinely wants to do good but is prevented may still receive reward, and promises made for Allah's sake should be fulfilled as far as one is able. We should look for many good intentions in ordinary acts, such as going to the masjid. We should also guide people toward work or help, offer advice or dua, and bring happiness to others. Allah's goodness can reach people through us when we make ourselves available to help.
