Worldly wealth does not prove Allah's love
“You will reserve your spot in Jannah.”
Allah's love is shown less by worldly wealth or status than by guiding, protecting, refining, and using a person to serve others, so believers should respond with humility, truthful speech, good manners, obedience, and concrete help.
The khutbah in 5 steps
- Rejects the idea that wealth, authority, or health prove Allah's love; divine love may protect people from worldly attachment.
- Explains human weakness and the need for Allah's guidance, including trials that bring people closer to Him.
- Warns against habitual argument and ego, highlighting the reward for leaving arguments, avoiding lies, and cultivating good manners.
- Connects love of Allah with prayer, fasting, charity, obedience, following the Prophet, and a faithful final shahadah.
- Concludes by urging listeners to serve people in need through practical acts of kindness and assistance.
In the khateeb's words
“Don't think because Allah loves you, He gonna give you more money. It's not one of the signs of His love.”
“The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam says, I guarantee a house in the lowest level of Jannah, of paradise, of heaven. For the person who gonna leave the argument even if he's right.”
“The matter is your manners. The way you treat people. The way you talk to people. The way you behave. The way you act in this worldly life.”
“Make somebody today happy. Somebody who is depressed. Somebody who is hungry. Somebody who has some debts. Go and help him. You will reserve your spot in Jannah.”
For the dinner table
The khateeb reminded us that Allah’s love is not measured by how much money or power we have, and that hardship can bring us closer to Him. We need Allah’s guidance because we do not always know what is best for us. Through Ibrahim’s gentle response to his father, we heard an example of respect during a painful disagreement. We were encouraged to leave arguments, speak truthfully even when joking, and care about how we treat people. Loving Allah means obeying Him and following the Prophet’s example, and loving others means showing it through actions. This week, we can put that lesson into practice by helping at home or supporting someone who is hungry, struggling with bills, or feeling low.
- What could you do when you really want to have the last word in an argument?
- What true story could you share that would make us laugh?
- Who could we help this week, and what could we do for them?
