Talk about it at home

For the dinner table

Today’s khutbah reminded us that people can change, even when their past makes that seem unlikely. Through the stories of Khalid ibn al-Walid and Suhayl ibn Amr, the khateeb described how the Prophet Muhammad recognized potential in people who had opposed him. He encouraged us to be patient and gentle when helping others grow. At home, that means speaking calmly and treating children and other family members with care while still taking right and wrong seriously. We can each make time for someone, notice their strengths, and ask Allah to guide our hearts and theirs.

  1. What is one strength you see in someone you sometimes find difficult to get along with?
  2. When you make a mistake, what kind of response helps you listen and learn?
  3. Who could you make time for or encourage this week?
