For the dinner table

Today's khutbah taught us that justice is a responsibility toward everyone, not only people in our own group. The story of a stolen shield showed why we must not accuse the innocent or let loyalty replace truth; Allah knows what is hidden. We should treat neighbors of other faiths honestly and respectfully, and invite our children toward prayer with kindness rather than force. This week, we can pause before judging, speak truthfully, and make our homes and mosque welcoming places.

  1. When have you seen someone treated fairly even when it was difficult?
  2. How can we make prayer or the mosque feel welcoming instead of forced?
  3. What does honesty look like when dealing with someone different from us?
