“A Muslim parent is responsible to teach their kids and to provide proper tarbiyah to their kids.”

The khateeb, at 6:57

The khutbah in 5 steps

  1. Challenges parents who excuse disrespectful behavior as inevitable American culture.
  2. Argues that adab and akhlaq should precede advanced Quranic and religious learning.
  3. Uses the Hadith of Jibreel and scholarly examples to connect etiquette with beneficial knowledge.
  4. Defines akhlaq as inner ethics and adab as outward manners, together forming character.
  5. Applies these principles to home behavior, masjid conduct, Quran etiquette, and social interactions.
Try this week
Teach akhlaq and adab before advanced Quranic and religious instruction.
Model respectful speech and behavior because children observe parents constantly.
Set boundaries against shouting, interrupting adults, walking away disrespectfully, and ignoring turn-taking.
Teach children to respect the masjid, pray in the main hall, remain quiet, and treat the Quran carefully.
Teach greetings, privacy, knocking, everyday duas, and respectful interaction with people of different backgrounds.
Correct violations consistently and compassionately, using clear consequences such as removing privileges when needed.
