The Prophet taught with patience and mercy

“Your goal is to bring them all to Allah.”

The khateeb, at 24:48

The khutbah in 4 steps

  1. People inevitably test one another, and the Prophet's shepherding prepared him to guide and protect people.
  2. His teaching involved patience, attentive listening, smiles, gentleness, and adapting advice to each person's situation.
  3. Stories involving newcomers, a young man asking about zina, and a Bedouin in the mosque illustrate merciful correction.
  4. He balanced kindness with directness in serious matters and urged Muslims to attract people toward Islam rather than repel them.
Try this week
Give people your full attention instead of looking at your phone or appearing distracted.
Smile, listen patiently, and let people finish speaking without interrupting.
Adapt advice to the person's age, background, needs, and situation.
Correct mistakes gently, but speak clearly when marriage, trust, business, or safety are involved.
Treat children with warmth and inclusion, and teach through personal example.
Respect leaders and approach Muslims and non-Muslims in ways that attract them toward Islam rather than frighten them away.
