Believing character leads to Jannah al-Firdaws
“Either you are going to say something good or you stay silent.”
The pathway to Jannah al-Firdaws is to embody the believer’s character in Surah al-Mu’minun through sincere faith, humble and punctual prayer, disciplined speech, zakat, chastity, trustworthiness, and accountability.
The khutbah in 7 steps
- Defines life’s purpose as worship and ultimate success as entering Jannah with Allah and Rasulullah.
- Introduces Surah al-Mu’minun as a framework for the qualities of Firdaws’s inheritors.
- Emphasizes iman, punctual salah, and making prayer the central priority of life.
- Explains cultivating khushu through focused wudu, responding to the adhan, and understanding recitation.
- Urges avoiding idle talk, gossip, and backbiting, while emphasizing zakat and inner purification.
- Warns against zina and harmful media, and calls listeners to guard trusts and promises.
- Closes by asking listeners to choose one or two qualities for focused practice this week.
In the khateeb's words
“you have to imagine you are praying in front of the one that is in control of the dunya. You're praying in front of the one that created you and give you everything that you ask for.”
“You believe in Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and you believe on yawm al-qiyamah, either you are going to say something good or you stay silent.”
“What is one thing Out of the seven characters Or the eight characters That you're going to do this week”
For the dinner table
Today’s khutbah reminds us that our deepest success is not only a good job or comfortable family life, but meeting Allah and entering Jannah al-Firdaws. The sermon presents Surah al-Mu’minun as a path: believe, pray with humility and on time, speak carefully, give zakat, guard chastity, keep promises, and protect the trusts Allah has given us. Khushu grows through preparation, including focused wudu, listening and repeating after the adhan, and understanding what we recite. This week, each of us can choose one or two of these qualities and practice them intentionally.
- Which quality from the khutbah would you most like our family to practice this week, and why?
- What helps you feel more present and humble during salah?
- How can we make it easier to speak kindly, avoid idle talk, and keep promises at home?
