Follow the Prophet through four practices

For the dinner table

Today’s khutbah reminded us that none of us grows alone: teachers, parents, and mentors help us learn and mature. The Prophet Muhammad was not only a messenger and lawgiver, but also our spiritual guide, teaching four connected things: Quran recitation, purification of our bodies and hearts, understanding the Book, and wisdom through the Sunnah. A good student-teacher relationship needs experience, trust, and a sincere desire to improve. The Prophet encouraged people by noticing their strengths, so our own words and nicknames should lift others up rather than make them feel small. We were asked to look honestly at what is missing in our lives and make time at least each week for these four parts of faith.

  1. Which person has helped you learn something important, and what did they teach you?
  2. Which of the four weekly faith practices would you like to make time for?
