For the dinner table

The khutbah reminds us that the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah are a special gift and a chance to draw closer to Allah. We should prepare by clearing resentment, pride, and harmful thoughts from our hearts and by strengthening our obligatory prayers. We can add voluntary prayers, fast as much of the first nine days as possible, especially Arafah, and keep our tongues busy with takbir and remembrance. If we have the means, we can offer udhiya and begin saving toward the once-in-a-lifetime obligation of Hajj. The sermon closes by asking Allah to bless families, help suffering Muslims, and heal people facing illness or injury.
