Talk about it at home

For the dinner table

Today’s khutbah reminded us that Allah knows the difficulties we face, including hurt from people close to us. The khateeb encouraged us to hold on to our faith and trust that Allah sees every word and action and will judge fairly. He urged us to pardon others, turn a new page, and work toward removing hatred from our hearts. We can try to repair relationships, but we cannot make another person change. He also explained that we can step away from harmful conversations with respect and dignity, following the Prophet’s example.

  1. When someone hurts your feelings, what could help you respond with faith and kindness?
  2. What would giving someone a fresh start look like at home or school?
  3. How could you politely leave a conversation where people are saying hurtful things about someone?
