The Prophet transformed faith and society
“Within the short span of 23 years, no human beings have brought so much change.”
The khutbah in 4 steps
- Historical comparisons argue that his leadership transformed religion, law, society, and civilization.
- The khutbah describes reforms from idolatry and tribal hierarchy to monotheism, brotherhood, equal law, and the Constitution of Medina.
- Stories involving Umar, a formerly enslaved Quran scholar, and Bilal illustrate merit, knowledge, and service over inherited status.
- The closing urges listeners to study the seerah, continue the Prophet’s mission, and consider their legacy before him.
In the khateeb's words
“within the short span of 23 years no human beings have brought so much change and no human being have ever been able to accomplish so much as the prophet alayhi salatu wa salam single-handedly did it”
“from tribalism to universal brotherhood and sisterhood suheb could be from room salman could be from faris bilal could be from habasha”
“you and me are the messenger of the messenger of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and my brothers and sisters one day you and me are going to be standing in front of him”
For the dinner table
The khateeb reminded us that following our beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is an honor that comes with responsibility. He encouraged us to learn about the Prophet’s life and seek success that reaches beyond money or fame toward pleasing Allah and preparing for the Hereafter. He described how the Prophet’s message brought people of different backgrounds into one community and challenged divisions based on wealth, ancestry, and status. He also emphasized that the Prophet and his companions worked hard, and Allah blessed their efforts. As a family, we can reflect on what we learn from his life, make time to help people who are suffering, and put those lessons into practice.
- What would you like to learn about the Prophet’s life, and why?
- How could we help someone feel included at school or in the masjid?
- What is one way our family could help someone in need this week?
