For the dinner table

The khutbah invites us to ask what it feels like for others to be around us. The Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, was approachable, smiling, gentle, and attentive to companions, family members, children, and people carrying worries. He met people according to their needs, stayed present with his family, and showed affection rather than saving his best behavior for public life. He also took the first step by greeting, calling, welcoming, apologizing, and forgiving. This week, choose one relationship and offer the warmth, listening, attention, apology, or forgiveness that person needs for Allah’s sake.

  1. What helps someone feel welcome and loved in our family?
  2. Who could we contact or forgive this week?
  3. How can we show interest in something another person enjoys?
