Hajj calls Muslims to live as one
“We are not going to move forward, we are not going to succeed until we feel we are one.”
Hajj teaches that Muslims are equal and must strengthen unity, compassion, and brotherhood while avoiding disputes over valid differences.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Hajj is presented as a transformative journey.
- Hajj demonstrates equality across race, nationality, language, and wealth.
- The khutbah connects unity with caring about Muslims suffering in Palestine.
- The Prophet’s brotherhood between the Muhajirin and Ansar illustrates sacrificial solidarity.
- Believers are urged to avoid sectarian arguments and prioritize communal unity.
- The khutbah closes with Quran recitation and community announcements.
In the khateeb's words
“Hajj is not just a destination, it's a transformation. So, Hajj is a journey that you can go there and come back with no sense.”
“And the bodies will never get connected and union until the hearts. That you feel the pain of your brother and sisters.”
“Whoever does not care about Muslims everywhere is not among the Ummah of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.”
“we are not going to move forward we are not going to succeed until we feel we are one”
For the dinner table
Today’s khutbah taught us that Hajj can transform our hearts and teach us to live as one Muslim community. People from many backgrounds gather in the same clothes and perform the same rituals, reminding us that what matters is taqwa, our awareness of Allah. The khateeb urged us to care about other Muslims’ suffering, including our brothers and sisters in Palestine, as we would care for pain in our own bodies. He shared the example of Sa'ad offering his wealth to his brother in faith and reminded us that Allah keeps what we give for His sake. He also encouraged us to protect our relationships when we disagree, remembering how much we share.
- How could you help someone who speaks a different language feel welcome at the masjid?
- What is something you could share this week to show care for someone else?
- When a disagreement gets heated, what could you say to help everyone stay close?
