Your daily choices reveal your heart

“All of these decisions every day, they speak of the state of your heart.”

The khateeb, at 11:32

In one sentence

A sound, purified heart is the true measure of faith before Allah, cultivated through repentance, sincerity, Quran, remembrance, self-restraint, charitable assumptions, and humility.

The khutbah in 5 steps

  1. Purifying the heart softens it, awakens love of faith, and makes obedience feel natural.
  2. A sound heart, not wealth, family, or outward appearance, is the real measure before Allah, and its condition appears in daily behavior.
  3. The Quran is presented as a test and source of the heart’s recognition, healing, guidance, and mercy.
  4. The khateeb gives seven remedies: repent and repair wrongs; protect private sincerity; recite Quran; maintain dhikr; guard the senses and private parts; reject envy and assume good; avoid arrogance.
  5. He closes by urging collective repentance and asking listeners to embody Islam through their conduct.
Try this week
Repent immediately after a sin or shortcoming and repair the wrong with a good action in the same situation.
Keep a private good deed between yourself and Allah, protected from public attention and praise.
Recite or listen to the Quran regularly and use your reaction to it as a check on your heart.
Keep the tongue moist with dhikr throughout the day, including morning, evening, and prayer remembrance.
Guard the eyes, ears, tongue, and private parts from distractions and haram.
Assume the best of others, avoid envy and suspicion, and do not expose a private moment of weakness.
When doing good, thank Allah for the ability and pray for people struggling instead of looking down on them.
Encourage one another toward repentance and embody Islam through everyday character.

For the dinner table

The khateeb taught that a heart becomes softer and more alive as it is purified, until faith is not only something we force ourselves to practice but something we naturally love. He said the heart’s condition shows up in everyday choices, how we pray, speak, treat family, respond to people, and resist temptation. The main remedies he offered were quick repentance and repair, a private deed done only for Allah, regular Quran and dhikr, and guarding the eyes, ears, tongue, and private parts. He also urged us to assume the best of others, hide their private weaknesses, and reject envy and arrogance. The goal is to return to Allah with a sound heart and help one another embody Islam with mercy and good character.
