True wealth means giving to others
“Think about how I can help others.”
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Defines true wealth as contentment with Allah rather than possessions.
- Uses examples of the Prophet’s generosity toward guests, the needy, and companions.
- Contrasts the Prophet’s simple life with worldly luxury and presents the Hereafter as lasting wealth.
- Broadens charity beyond money to include smiles, time, knowledge, food, clothing, help, and prayer.
- Applies generosity to family life, emphasizing service, kindness, and giving time to those closest to us.
- Closes with prayers for generosity, contentment, forgiveness, and relief for suffering communities.
Try this week
Give regularly, even if the amount is small, such as a few dollars or part of a date.
Offer generosity through smiles, time, knowledge, help, clothing, food, or making du'a.
Make time for family and serve them rather than treating busyness as an excuse.
Help someone who asks for advice, assistance, or help finding work.
Look for ways to bring happiness to another Muslim household.
Replace self-focused thinking with a deliberate question: how can I help others?
