Honor trusts and judge fairly
“Now offer prayer with present heart otherwise you know this all become wasteful.”
Allah commands us to honor every trust and judge all people fairly, while the Prophet's example teaches forgiveness, mercy, and integrity in personal and communal life.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Explains Surah an-Nisa 4:58 as a command to return trusts and judge all people justly.
- Recounts the Prophet's return of the Kaaba key to Uthman ibn Talha after the conquest of Makkah.
- Draws lessons about forgiveness, maintaining relationships, and responding to abuse with prayer rather than revenge.
- Applies trustworthiness to keeping secrets, repaying loans, and honoring responsibilities.
- Urges impartial judgments regardless of wealth, power, family ties, or weakness.
- Closes with supplications and a reminder to pray with a present heart.
In the khateeb's words
“And whoever abused him, so he always makes supplication for this person. And he always gave him dua. And whoever not gave him anything, so he gave them.”
“If person is a powerful, or person is a very richest, or person is very poor, or weak. So do not change your judgment. Do not judge unjustly. Always judge fairly.”
“So you left your home, your job, your family but now offer prayer with present heart otherwise you know this all become wasteful.”
For the dinner table
Today's khutbah centered on Allah's command to return every trust and judge people fairly. The Prophet's return of the Kaaba key to Uthman ibn Talha showed forgiveness, humility, and integrity even after being insulted. In daily life, this means keeping secrets, repaying loans, and making fair decisions without favoring the powerful or harming the weak. We should forgive personal wrongs and pray for people who hurt us, while standing for justice when someone else is oppressed. We should also bring an attentive heart to prayer.
- When have you had to be fair even when it was difficult?
- What is one trust or secret you need to protect?
- What helps you focus your heart during prayer?
