True success comes through belief and small deeds

NIA Masjid · Muheez Rehman

“Do the small things in a great way.”

The khateeb, at 27:04

In one sentence

True success before Allah is reached not through grand achievements but through sincere belief, constant small righteous deeds done with excellence, and a heart connected to the Quran.

The khutbah in 6 steps

  1. Allah gives humanity the recipe for success: revelation is meant for us, and our relationship with Him is its purpose
  2. The promise of Surah At-Tin: those who believe and do good will be blessed in this life and find Allah perfectly just on Judgment Day
  3. Fasting and Quranic connection are the practical doors to becoming the best version of ourselves
  4. Story of Abdullah bin Nima: a small act of service, bread with olive oil for a needy woman, drew a dua that saved his life
  5. The lesson of ihsan: perfect the small things, greeting family, visiting the masjid, learning names, rather than chasing greatness
  6. Closing dua for forgiveness, steadfastness in fasting, love of the Quran, and unity as a community
Try this week
Fast to open receptivity to the Quran during the blessed days ahead
Block out distractions and make time to read and connect with the Quran
Greet your spouse with excellent manners when you return home
Smile, hug, and kiss your parents because you do not know when the next chance will come
Come to the masjid, say salam, learn people's names, and ask how their day was
Treat small acts of service with ihsan and ask how you could do them better next time
Sources the khateeb cited
Quran 95:6-8Used to establish that believers who do righteous deeds receive uninterrupted reward and that Allah is the most just of judges.

For the dinner table

The khutbah reminded us that success begins with faith and a steady commitment to doing good. Fasting can open our hearts, create space for the Quran, and help us become people who keep learning. The story of Abdullah bin Nima showed how a small act of generosity, serving a struggling woman bread with olive oil, can carry great blessing when we want for others what we want for ourselves. We were encouraged to practice ihsan in ordinary moments: greeting family warmly, honoring parents, and welcoming people at the masjid. We should keep asking how to improve these small deeds while trusting Allah and strengthening our bonds as a community.

  1. What is one small helpful thing you could do for someone today?
  2. How can fasting help you make more time for the Quran?
  3. What is one good habit you would like to improve this week?
