True success means earning Allah's pleasure
“We are here in this dunya to only implement, to only follow rules of Allah.”
True success is earning Allah's pleasure and leaving a lasting legacy, and Prophet Ibrahim's enduring legacy, visible in our salah and Hajj, shows the path: pass every test, obey Allah without argument, and seek truth independently rather than blindly following your environment.
The khutbah in 8 steps
- Real success is Allah being pleased with you and leaving a positive legacy after death, not money or status
- Prophet Ibrahim's legacy lives on in our daily salah through the blessings we send on him in tashahhud
- His legacy also underlies nearly every ritual of Hajj, the Ka'bah, tawaf, sa'i, stoning, and sacrifice
- First reason his mention was elevated: he passed every test Allah put him through
- Application: expect trials when you return to Allah, tests prove sincere repentance
- Second reason: he made worshipping Allah his life's purpose and obeyed commands without ever asking why
- Third reason: he rejected the idolatry of his parents and society and sought the truth himself
- Call to learn your religion, answer your children's questions, and never follow people without thinking; closing dua
In the khateeb's words
“The real succeed, real succeed, is that Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is blazed with you.”
“We are here in this dunya to only implement, to only follow rules of Allah.”
“You live here in the West. Many people, when you ask him, why are you doing that? He always say, because one of our tradition, but that's haram.”
For the dinner table
Today the khateeb taught us that real success is not money or a good job, but Allah being pleased with us and leaving a good legacy behind. He showed us how Prophet Ibrahim's legacy is still alive today, we mention him in every salah, and almost every ritual of Hajj goes back to him and his family. Ibrahim earned this honor because he passed every test Allah gave him, obeyed Allah's commands without arguing or asking why, and refused to worship idols just because his father and society did. The khateeb reminded us that when we return to Allah, life may get harder at first because Allah tests whether our repentance is sincere. He also told us to learn our religion well so we can answer our children's questions, and to never follow people blindly without thinking.
- What is one test in your life right now that might actually be Allah checking your sincerity?
- Name one thing we do as a family just because 'everyone does it', should we check if it's right?
- If a friend asked you why Muslims pray five times a day, how would you answer?
