Quotes
In the khateeb's words
“Islam is not just rituals. It's not just praying and fasting and looking religious on the outside. Islam is supposed to shape the way we treat people.”
“A smile, a kind word, helping someone with a small task, giving someone a ride, visiting someone who's sick, checking in on a friend.”
“Kindness doesn't always require money. Your time, patience, and attention are also charity in its own.”
“A small kindness from you might be the only light they experience in that day.”
Talk about it at home
For the dinner table
The khateeb reminded us that Islam should shape both our worship and the way we treat people. Praying and looking religious should go together with compassion and care for others. Small acts, like smiling, helping with groceries, or checking on a friend, matter to Allah and can be charity. We get tired and stressed, but we can take sincere steps toward kindness, beginning with our families. By giving others our time, patience, and attention, we can bring comfort to people whose struggles we may not see.
- What small kindness could you offer someone at school or at home tomorrow?
- When you feel tired or annoyed, what could help you hold back a harsh word?
- Who could use a little more of your time or attention this week?
