Able Muslims should not delay Hajj
“When will you make a true and sincere dua to perform hajj in Bayt Allah?”
Hajj is both a once-in-a-lifetime obligation and a vivid reminder of Judgment, so Muslims who are able should sincerely ask Allah for it, plan to perform it, and support pilgrims through dua.
The khutbah in 7 steps
- Ibrahim’s sacrifice and Allah’s call established the universal pilgrimage.
- Hajj mirrors the Day of Judgment through crowds, ihram, exhaustion, and equality.
- A reported hadith describes immense rewards for the journey, tawaf, sa’i, and Arafah, including forgiveness.
- Listeners are urged to ask pilgrims to make personal dua for them.
- Hajj becomes obligatory when a Muslim has sufficient financial, physical, temporal, and practical ability, so it should not be unnecessarily delayed.
- An elderly woman’s persistent dua illustrates sincere longing and reliance upon Allah.
- The khutbah closes with prayers for Hajj, forgiveness, steadfastness, and uplift for the Ummah.
In the khateeb's words
“if I don't ask Allah like this who can I ask if I don't insist on Allah who can I insist to no one can give me anything but Allah can give me everything”
“when will you make a true and sincere dua to perform hajj in Bayt Allah so that you're forgiven for all of your sins”
For the dinner table
The khateeb reminded us that Hajj is a precious blessing and one of the five pillars of Islam. He told the story of Ibrahim calling people to Hajj, showing how we can do our part and trust Allah with the result. He described the crowds and simple clothing of pilgrims as reminders of the Day of Judgment and our need for Allah’s forgiveness. He encouraged those who are able to make Hajj a priority and urged everyone to ask sincerely for the opportunity to go. He also reminded us to ask people going to Hajj to remember us in their duas, especially by asking Allah to forgive us.
- Who would you include in your duas, and what would you ask Allah to give them?
- What is one step our family could take to keep the hope of Hajj in our hearts?
