Be like bees and leave goodness

“When we stop competing and start serving.”

The khateeb, at 17:47

In one sentence

In a distracted age, Muslims should follow the Quran’s reflective guidance and become like bees, pure, cooperative, beneficial, and leaving healing goodness behind.

The khutbah in 6 steps

  1. Diagnoses distraction, doom scrolling, artificial intelligence, and outsourced thinking.
  2. Presents the Quran as guidance that awakens reflection and teaches believers to read creation as signs.
  3. Explores Surah al-Nahl’s bee as a creature guided in its home, path, work, and purpose.
  4. Applies the bee’s purity, benefit, pollination, and cooperation to Muslim character and community life.
  5. Connects honey’s healing to communities that serve, uplift, and produce lasting benefit.
  6. Concludes with a finite lifespan and calls listeners to create their own beneficial “honey,” followed by a Gaza remembrance announcement.

For the dinner table

The khutbah reminds us that the Quran is meant to wake up our minds, not replace our thinking. The bee shows us how to follow Allah’s guidance, seek what is pure, work with others, and leave benefit wherever we go. We can make our own “honey” by helping neighbors, teaching others, raising good children, supporting the masjid, and doing work that heals people. We should enjoy Allah’s halal blessings without spending our lives only consuming screens and trends. The question to carry with us is what good will remain because we were here.

  1. What kind of “honey” could you produce through your actions this week?
  2. Who is someone whose knowledge or opportunity you could share with another person?
