Wealth and power are tests, not proof

“Having money, having kids, having authority is not a sign that Allah is pleased with you.”

The khateeb, at 16:23

In one sentence

Wealth, authority, and family are tests from Allah rather than proof of His favor, so believers must remember their source and use these blessings for good before death and judgment.

For the dinner table

Today’s khutbah reminded us that our blessings come from Allah and that how we use them is a test. Having more money or power does not by itself mean Allah is pleased with us. Through the story of Qarun, the imam warned against pride, envy, and forgetting the One who gives us what we have. He encouraged us to make our money useful by helping our families, supporting people in need, and spending for Allah’s sake without waste or stinginess. He also described faith as glasses that help us see what matters, reminding us to speak truth and do good while we have the opportunity.
