True strength is self-control

“The failure is also the person who becomes a slave to their desires.”

The khateeb, at 18:40

In one sentence

Iman requires reframing life beyond what is immediately visible, making strength self-control, intelligence accountability to the afterlife, and hardship an occasion for trust in Allah and comprehensive supplication.

The khutbah in 5 steps

  1. Introduces iman bil-ghayb as a worldview beyond sensory appearances.
  2. Uses invisible ink and canvas metaphors to explain how faith reveals hidden meaning and divine care.

For the dinner table

The khutbah invites us to look at life with more than our eyes alone. Faith means trusting that Allah has given the world purpose and that unseen care, wisdom, and accountability are real. The Prophet’s teachings redefine strength as controlling anger, intelligence as preparing for the afterlife, and failure as becoming a servant of one’s desires. We are encouraged to ask Allah for every kind of good, now and later, including good we know and good we cannot yet see. When life brings uncertainty, tawakkul helps us keep striving while trusting Allah’s wisdom.

  1. When have you noticed that a situation was different from how it first appeared?
  2. What helps you control yourself when anger begins to rise?
  3. What is one good thing you can ask Allah for this week that you may not yet recognize?
