Talk about it at home

For the dinner table

The khutbah teaches that real success is not only praying, fasting, or giving charity. The Prophet’s hadith about the bankrupt person warns that hurting, insulting, backbiting, or taking from others can wipe away a person’s good deeds. A Quranic verse reminds us to care for parents, relatives, orphans, neighbors, companions, travelers, and people in need. We should fulfill these responsibilities because Allah asks it, not to gain praise or status. At home, we can choose one neglected relationship to repair and look for practical ways to help someone find halal work or support the community. The khutbah also includes prayers for relief for Gaza.

  1. Which relationship in our family or community might need more care from us this week?
  2. How can we help someone in a practical way without seeking praise?
  3. What does “spiritual bankruptcy” mean in everyday life?
