For the dinner table

Today’s khutbah reminded us that our tongues are a blessing from Allah, and our words have real effects on others and on our spiritual lives. The khateeb explained that we are accountable for what we say, including what we write in texts and share online. He warned against gossip, lies, hurtful comments, and vulgar language, and reminded us that we do not always need to fill silence with words. Our tongues can also bring great goodness through remembering Allah, reciting the Quran, and speaking well. As summer brings more time together, we can ask Allah to forgive our harmful words and help us make our homes and gatherings places of goodness.

  1. What could you say when a conversation starts making fun of someone?
  2. When might a quiet pause help you choose better words?
  3. How could we remember Allah together during our summer activities?
