Use your blessings to ease others’ hardship
“If Allah gave you influence, use it like Sayyidina Abdullah ibn Abbas to help this person in need.”
True brotherhood means using our influence and blessings to relieve others’ hardships, concealing their faults, supporting the oppressed, and turning gratitude into compassionate action.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- The speaker introduces the reward for sincerely trying to fulfill another Muslim’s need.

- He urges listeners to use influence, employment opportunities, and wealth to help people in difficulty, including those suffering in Gaza.
- He teaches concealing others’ faults, controlling the tongue, and sincerely repenting for one’s own mistakes.
- He offers condolences for a community member’s bereavement and prays for righteous endings, unity, compassion, and moral courage.
- He closes with announcements about learning opportunities, Umrah, youth programs, and supporting the mosque.
In the khateeb's words
“If Allah gave you prominence If Allah gave you influence Use it like Sayyidina Abdullah ibn Abbas To help this person in need”
“Do everything you can In your influence In your power In your affordability To support those who are experiencing injustice Here or anywhere in the world”
For the dinner table
The khutbah teaches that helping people through hardship is one of the clearest signs of Muslim brotherhood. We should use whatever Allah has given us, time, influence, money, skills, or opportunities, to support people in need and those facing injustice. We should also protect people’s dignity by concealing their faults instead of spreading them, while remembering to repent for our own mistakes. The speaker connected these lessons to grief in the community, suffering in Gaza, and the hope that our compassion will bring Allah’s mercy on the Day of Resurrection.
- Who is someone you could help with the influence or abilities Allah has given you?
- What does it mean to protect someone’s dignity when you know about their mistake?
- How can we show gratitude through action this week?
