People may hurt or disappoint us, even when we have done nothing wrong. The khutbah says we can protect ourselves by lowering our expectations, but we must never use our pain as permission to hurt others. Instead, we should follow the Prophet’s example by being truthful, trustworthy, and sincerely helpful, even when people do not repay us. In a dishonest world, Muslims are called to keep their principles and become the good people they wish they could find.
