Goodness shapes what we take and say
“They are people that speak with goodness.”
A good believer mindfully guards what they consume, speaks with goodness, nourishes their soul, acts purposefully, and brings that goodness into civic and community life.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Opens with gratitude and frames goodness as mindful, pure intake.
- Teaches that good people avoid gossip and speak gently, attentively, and constructively.
- Uses Surah Ibrahim’s tree analogy to explain the lasting effect of good speech.
- Urges spiritual nourishment through dhikr, Quran, and focused prayer rather than excessive scrolling.
- Applies goodness to voting in the Frisco mayoral runoff and representing Muslims positively.
- Closes with reminders about neighbors, parking, security cooperation, and respectful community conduct.
In the khateeb's words
“And so the believer, the mu'min, when it comes to the faithful purist, they're mindful of this. They're mindful and attentive of what is being taken in by me physically, but also the spiritual person, the emotional person.”
“So people of khair, people of goodness, the first and foundational kind of element that they have within themselves is that they are people that speak with goodness.”
“Is there a healthy portion of my day that is consumed, is taken, occupied by reading the Quran, the book of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala?”
“The behavior, the movements of the believer have intentionality behind him. They have purpose behind him. They know what they're going to move next to.”
For the dinner table
The khateeb taught that goodness begins with being careful about what enters our bodies, minds, and hearts. Good people speak gently, avoid gossip, and do not involve themselves in matters that do not concern them. They nourish themselves through Quran, dhikr, and sincere prayer instead of treating endless scrolling as self-care. They also move through life with purpose and try to leave a positive impression on others. The sermon connected this character to civic participation and respectful treatment of neighbors and community workers.
- What could healthy spiritual self-care look like this week?
- How can our family show respect to neighbors in public places?
