For the dinner table

Today's khutbah taught that modesty is not just clothing; it is balance in how we dress, speak, consume, and behave. The Prophet's guidance, as presented, joins modesty with forgiving people and making life easier for them. Following the Sunnah therefore requires mercy, while mercy should still remain guided by the Sunnah. Real modesty is taqwa, being mindful of Allah when no one is watching, including in our thoughts, earnings, food, and honesty. The examples of the wealthy quiet worshipper and parents answering a children's quiz reminded us that character is revealed when status and supervision disappear.

  1. How can we show modesty in the way we speak and treat people?
  2. What helps you do the right thing when nobody is watching?
  3. Why should mercy and following the Sunnah stay together?
