For the dinner table

Today's khutbah taught that the Prophet Muhammad was sent as a mercy for all people. The speaker reminded us that every deed matters, even a small act, because we will stand before Allah. He showed the Prophet's mercy through his concern for people's guidance, his forgiveness at the conquest of Mecca, and his prayer for those who harmed him. We were asked to practice mercy with our families, friends, neighbors, and all of Allah's creation by being less selfish, more patient, generous, humble, and forgiving. This week we can choose one small act of compassion and make it part of our daily life.

  1. What is one small act of mercy you can show someone today?
  2. When is it hard to forgive, and what could help you respond with compassion?
  3. How might putting yourself in another person's position change what you do?
