For the dinner table

Today’s khutbah reminded us that Muslims love and honor Isa, Jesus son of Mary, as a great prophet and messenger of Allah. The khateeb shared the story of Maryam and Isa’s miraculous birth, describing her worship, fear, and the comfort Allah provided through water and dates. Maryam’s instruction to shake the palm tree teaches us to make an effort while trusting Allah to provide. The khutbah also described baby Isa speaking from the cradle, identifying himself as Allah’s servant and speaking about prayer, charity, and kindness to his mother. As a family, we can reflect on these lessons by caring for one another, making time for worship, and taking practical steps when life feels difficult.

  1. What part of Maryam’s story would you share with a friend, and why?
  2. What is one small step you can take toward something you are praying for?
  3. What could you do this week to show your mother kindness?
