For the dinner table

Today’s khutbah reminded us that charity given sincerely for Allah has a great reward, including shade on the Day of Judgment. The khateeb described someone who hides their giving so carefully that even their left hand does not know what their right hand gave. He also shared the example of Abu al-khayr, who gave charity every day and lived by what he taught. Feeding someone, offering a drink, and providing clothing are ways to care for others while hoping for Allah’s care. Giving secretly helps us turn our attention toward Allah, while giving publicly can also be good when our intention is to encourage others. We can work on making generosity a regular habit and checking what we hope for in our hearts.
