Consideration eases others’ hidden burdens

ISW · Huzaifah Khan

“The best of actions is that which is consistent long term even though it may be little.”

The khateeb, at 13:47

In one sentence

Because everyone may be carrying hidden hardship, Muslims should practice considerate, forgiving behavior by protecting others, adapting to their needs, easing burdens, and choosing sustainable worship while fulfilling obligations.

The khutbah in 6 steps

  1. People often conceal financial, health, family, emotional, and social struggles, so others should notice signs of need.

For the dinner table

The khutbah reminds us that people often carry struggles we cannot see, including grief, debt, illness, loneliness, or depression. We should notice signs of difficulty, give others the benefit of the doubt, and respond with mercy. Being considerate also means driving safely, respecting people’s limits, and making things easier when we can. In worship, we should keep our obligations and choose voluntary practices we can maintain consistently.

  1. What is one hidden difficulty someone might be carrying, and how could we respond kindly?
  2. When could making something shorter or easier help another person?
  3. What small good habit could you keep doing every week?
