Contentment begins when comparison ends
“The more you look into Islam with a sincere heart the more you love it and the more you get close to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.”
Abu Dharr's example and advice teach Muslims to prioritize the afterlife over worldly comparison, cultivate contentment, care for the vulnerable, maintain family ties, speak truthfully, and rely on Allah through action.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Introduces Abu Dharr's conversion, ascetic life, and solitary death.
- Argues that reminders must be implemented because the Quran can testify for or against a listener.
- Encourages looking at those with less, resisting social-media comparison, and developing contentment.
- Calls listeners to love, approach, and support poor people and orphans.
- Urges maintaining family ties despite rejection and not fearing blame for obeying Allah.
- Encourages sincere Islamic study, honesty, frequent remembrance, and pairing reliance on Allah with action.
In the khateeb's words
“but know that this gift that Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala gave you is the greatest of gifts and it's a gift that the people of Jannah”
“the more you look into Islam with a sincere heart the more you love it and the more you get close to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala”
“honesty only brings goodness it might be difficult at that moment to be honest but at least now your parents know that you're someone that is honest”
For the dinner table
Today's khutbah used the life of Abu Dharr to show that reminders matter only when we live by them. It encouraged us to seek contentment with Allah's gifts instead of comparing ourselves with people who have more, especially online. We should stay close to people in need, support orphans, and keep family ties even when others pull away. The speaker also encouraged young Muslims to learn their faith, speak honestly, and not be ashamed of Islam. Finally, we should remember that there is no power or strength except through Allah while pairing trust in Him with real action.
- What is one blessing we sometimes overlook?
- How can we show kindness to someone who needs support?
- When is telling the truth difficult, and how can we practice it?
